However, as technology has a profound impact on the fabric of our societies we should investigate not only the relationship between technology and individual freedoms but also the effect on collective freedoms.

hackathon: Margaret Gold - Mapping the Heat with various DIY approaches

Urban Heat Stress has never been more top-of-mind, or more urgent. We'll be bringing different community monitoring approaches to explore: the wearable iSense sensor (logging temperature as you walk), a simple hand-held thermometer (cheap, no app needed), and a perception survey (because how hot a place feels doesn't always match the thermometer). Come play with us to try out the methods, compare the resulting data, and help us figure out how wearable data, spot-measurements, and lived experience could be layered onto one shared map. Bring your map-hacking, data-wrangling, or just-curious-about-heat brain.

workshop: Ger Hanssen - Weg van Big Tech

(This presentation is primarily directed to a Dutch audience, so it will be in Dutch)
Veel mensen die met de War te maken krijgen,verwonderen zich wel eens over onze principiële keuze voor onafhankelijke middelen die los staan van de grote Tech-bedrijven, met name Microsoft, Meta (Facebook), Apple, Alphabet (Google) en Amazon.
Wat drijft ons om daar zo principieel over te zijn? Wat doen deze bedrijven wat je niet zou willen dat ze doen? Waarom zou het een goede zaak zijn als meer mensen dat zouden doen? En welke bruikbare alternatieven zijn er eigenlijk beschikbaar?
We zetten kort uiteen wat de belangrijkste redenen zijn om alternatieven te zoeken voor Big Tech. En we gaan daarna samen op zoek naar bruikbare alternatieven. Dat doen we aan de hand van een zogenaamde Skill Tree, een Vaardighedenboom. Ik ga iedereen uitnodigen om zelf de vaardigheden te ontwikkelen die nodig zijn om weg te gaan van Big Tech.
Neem ook digitale middelen mee om te kunnen zoeken naar alternatieven.

workshop: Jay - Zines as a form of resistance

Zines are an accessible way of distributing information. In times of growing censorship, capitalism, and fascism, zines can form an important medium of sharing information and building community.

We'll start with a short introduction about the history of zines and the relevancy of zines nowadays. Then we'll dive in and create a zine of our own.

For those that want to come prepared:
- What would you like to share with the world? Is there a specific topic, question, or viewpoint you wish would reach more people?
- Bring magazines/newspapers/pictures. Your favourite markers or paint. Washi tape or label printer. Dried flowers. Whatever you want to work with or get excited about.
- If you want to create your zine digitally, bring a laptop or tablet.

There will be some materials to work with provided at the workshop.

Learn how to keep an accessible copy of Wikipedia, your favorite books, music, films, pictures and games. Jo will give a workshop on how to create your own offline archive for when the Internet goes down. Archiving is a valuable skill you can learn to make your life and community more resourceful and resilient. So grab any harddrive, thumbdrives, optical discs and/or diskettes you have and let's go!

=> Jo is a software engineer, security pentester and founder of hybrix (alternative monetary system). He also enjoys being in nature, making music and is working on a story book.

lecture: Kees Kooijman - Red de Randmeren

Het merengebied van de Randmeren is in de 60-er jaren van de vorige eeuw ontstaan door de aanleg van de Flevopolders. Uit de eerdere aanleg van de Noordoostpolder werd de les getrokken dat een waterbuffer tussen het oude en nieuwe land nodig was om te voorkomen dat de grondwaterspiegel in de kuststrook van het oude land teveel zou dalen met verdroging als gevolg. De buffer kon tegelijkertijd worden gebruikt voor scheepvaart, waterrecreatie en natuur.
Het gebied is min of meer ingericht op basis van de toenmalige kennis. Inmiddels blijken aanpassingen nodig om de waterrecreatie beter te faciliteren (beheersing waterplanten) en de basis voor het ecologisch functioneren en goede waterkwaliteit te verbeteren (o.a. voorkomen terugval naar troebele, algenrijke toestand). Te nemen maatregelen schuren en grijpen tegelijkertijd in elkaar.
In deze lezing wordt een integrale aanpak geschetst die in één procesgang de ecologie en het recreatief gebruik van de meren zullen verbeteren.

lecture: Bart Verkade - DeltaCultuur

Wie de delta leert kennen, ontdekt dat geen enkele plaats op zichzelf staat. Rivieren verbinden steden, havens verbinden regio's en verhalen verbinden generaties. DeltaCultuur wil aan die eeuwenoude beweging een nieuwe culturele dimensie toevoegen. Door bestaande initiatieven met elkaar te verbinden en ruimte te scheppen voor nieuwe samenwerking.

lecture: Paul Brouwer - Seasonal heat storage in salt hydrates - Zoutbatterij

Being able to store excess heat from summer to winter would be a great way to improve energy use efficiency and sustainability of buildings. Particularly in greenhouses there is a lot of excess heat during the summer that could completely cover the heat demand in winter if ... it could be stored in en easy (economic) way. Storing heat in reactions between salt and water has been researched for a long time and in theory has the potential to bridge the summer-winter gap. As a learning-by-doing project a salt battery was built and in this lecture I share the first hand experience gained with the gaps between theory and practice.

lecture: Voedselkollektief Amersfoort - Voedselkollektief Amersfoort: another way of eating sustainable, local and healthy foods

Voedselkollektief Amersfoort’s aim is to stimulate local, organic agriculture and reduce the distance between farmer and citizen. We purchase our vegetables, fruits, dairy and other fresh produce directly from our local farmers and growers within a radius of 25 kilometers of Amersfoort. You can find us at our pop up shop in the WAR on Thursdays evening and Friday morning. We are looking forward to sharing more about this concept and how you can join this movement.

other: Rob van den Bogaard - Elm

Low-dependency frameworks are important! So it is good to at least know of Elm, a friendly, stable and small language that reduces run-time exceptions to a minimum and lowers the fear of refactoring (read: maintenance). Not only the number of dependencies is low, also the impact of using them in your code is better bounded. The clarity and (type) safety guarantees are particularly urgent in the age of AI.

Let's start with a demonstration of Elm, and then discuss its relevance in App-o-Matic context, to w3c Solid for low-dependency distributed storage, and to open source software development challenges in general.

lecture: Pieter van der Hijden - The state of the network: Fablabs, World and SDGs

The author reviews highlights and trends from the FAB26 annual conference in Boston last month. He continues with the state of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the way the fablab network has been involved with this program. The "heatmap" combines both worlds; its potential will be discussed.

Suze - Mutual Aid

In recent years, seeing one crisis after the other, the concept and practice of Mutual Aid has seen a resurgence around the globe. First coined by the anarhist philosopher Peter Kropotkin as a cooperative organisational model for disaster relief, it has developed in recent years in an attempt to meet contemporary circumstances of scarcity and survival needs. This workshop is inspired by a recent reading of the book "Mutual Aid, Building Solidarity during this Crisis and the Next," by the American activist and writer Dean Spade, which just had it's updated second print in spring 2026.

For the purposes of this workshop, I will make an attempt to bring some of the advice and priciples that Spade offers out of the American (cultural, and legal) context, and into the Dutch practice. After an informal lecture, there will be space for sharing experiences, struggles, and best practices in organising.
